When the news gets me down, the garden & kitchen are my magic place

Some sad news in Baltimore over the last weekend plus the usual global issues.. the garden and kitchen become my place to be a part of what I feel is right in this world.

This past weekend I harvested much of the spring crops: golden and bull's blood beets, fennel, and carrots. Peas will be harvested today (I'm a little late!) and there's always kale growing.

Tomato seedlings, Mexican tarragon, sweet basil, and pumpkins went into the empty spaces left by the carrots and beets.

Comment by Aliza Ess on June 8, 2010 at 9:40am: I planted the carrot seeds in mid-March.. maybe that's why they're so early? Plus it gets hotter here in Baltimore City than in more rural areas, so maybe that sped things up.

But it sure doesn't make the bad stuff go away for sure. We all do what we can to make the world just a bit better. There's a long row to hoe.
