So, we made our first attempt at urban foraging last week. I discovered a crab apple tree near the library, and we went and harvested about half of what was on the tree.
I was able to successfully turn it into crab apple jelly. Delicious!
I'm so into this urban foraging idea, and want to learn more!

Comment by Shannon Zuiz on August 26, 2012 at 12:00pm Wow! I had no idea you could pickle dandelion flowers! They grow in abundance around here, so I'll have to give that a try.
Thanks for the advice and encouragement! I will see if our library has some sort of guide to local edible "weeds".
And I hear you on other parents making you second guess yourself. It's so hard to stay strong in your convictions with all the "noise" around us.
Thanks again!
