Celebrate the culture of agriculture & share skills (Growing! Cooking! Eating!)

So, we made our first attempt at urban foraging last week. I discovered a crab apple tree near the library, and we went and harvested about half of what was on the tree.

I was able to successfully turn it into crab apple jelly. Delicious!

I'm so into this urban foraging idea, and want to learn more!

Wow! I had no idea you could pickle dandelion flowers! They grow in abundance around here, so I'll have to give that a try.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement! I will see if our library has some sort of guide to local edible "weeds".

And I hear you on other parents making you second guess yourself.  It's so hard to stay strong in your convictions with all the "noise" around us.

Thanks again!

Hey, Shannon: It's mostly based in California and overseas, but this site mapping spots for foraging is really cool—and maybe you'll be inspired to start a map for Virginia: www.fallenfruit.org. —Jennifer
