The Long Wait, Nearly Over... Hopefully...

It's been a long 9 weeks since we first put in an offer on the homestead we're purchasing. It's been a long process due to certain requirements of the type of loan we're obtaining. That said, the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight at last!

We're going to be VERY busy for the next 6 mos or so to be sure. So much to do I can't even list it all, but besides the contracted kitchen rehab and roof job,  painting/papering, outbuilding rehab and tilling up a field are some of the firsts that come to mind. Thereafter, raising up some baby chics and building their coop, building a small goat shelter,  finishing the basement (a rec room on one side, a root cellar and storage room on the other), and tearing out old livestock fencing in favor of a small pool and outdoor entertaining area.

Last week, we had quite a lot of wind. An old tree we had planned to remove anyhow happened to fall on it's own and miss the outbuilding by maybe 15 feet at most. PSHEW!

I got some wildflower seeds to scatter out front between the road and the ditch today... Can't wait til spring!

Sounds like so many good things in store. And that tree crossed off the list already—without harm, thank goodness!—with Mother Nature's help. What will you do to create the root cellar?

We're going to frame in a small room in the NE corner of the basement and insulate it (including the ceiling) with styrofoam insulation. There's a few different style plans floating around the internet.

Aha. You're giving me a HOMEGROWN 101 inspiration—and that inspiration is: Can I persuade/convince/pester you into writing a 101 on building a root cellar once you guys are in the process? I'll message you separately. (Insert mischievous cackle here.)

Yeah, I can do that. It won't be til this autumn now though.

Sounds good! And fingers crossed your closing goes well!
