Tony,
Farm Aid was awesome!! I enjoyed every second of being there!
I live on my family farm, it has been in the family for three generations now, and my son and I are gearing up to take over. It is hard work and we all have day jobs to make ends meet. I suggest you get with buyers and talk with other farmers in your area and figure out what will be more profitable to you. I hope you do it and wish you success!

Probably a lot of people on this site dream of living off their land, having a sustainable and profitable farm and never going back to the hum drum daily work routine, me included for sure!! If your family is on board with the idea & willing to work on this farm, you've done your research as to your market and have a plan of action (business plan) AND have plenty of money to put into starting - GO FOR IT! You only live once! Make sure to have a plan B though, don't burn any bridges in the working world! Now, if I could only follow my own advice! Good luck & keep us posted!

Just remember that farming is ultimately just a business it has unique challenges, but what is comes down to is sales. If you can sell your product and sell it for a good price then you will do well. If you can not sell it doesn't matter how good a farmer you are it will not work. For me I know I couldn't do it because I hate selling. Doesn't matter if it is standing at a stall in a farmers market or going into a butcher and trying to get them to buy your meat or just talking to people and convincing them to come out and buy something it is all sales and if your not comfortable with that your doomed.
