We're four retired women, 2 are retired cops, 2 are related, one is called "Mom", and she has adopted all of us. Three are from an island in Lake Erie (Put-In-Bay), and one is from Oregon.
We all live together in a good-sized house in the middle of the desert in SW Utah on 10 acres of tumbleweed and sand.
Over the past 7 years, we've been building our soil on about .1 acre and now have a Certified Organic Status. It's not something we were pursuing, until we successfully got a NRCS EQIP grant to build two hoop houses over most of the garden.
We also have sheep. Their lambs go to folks who truly appreciate alfalfa-fed animals, and understand the love it takes to raise them.
The goats are a new addition, and will be used to make cheese (still another new project). I fell into cheese making. I consider it a gift from God that I have the patience to make awesome cheese.
We also have rabbits for meat, and chickens for eggs.
Sometime in the next two years, a couple of us are going to become Master Gardeners by terms of the same grant that caused us to Become CO.
For markets, we support two Farmer's Markets in Cedar City, Utah, and also have private customers, who purchase our custom raised meat.
