HOMEGROWN

Celebrate the culture of agriculture & share skills (Growing! Cooking! Eating!)

On Saturday October 29th, I along with other weather-hardy Farm Aid staffers, traveled through rain, wind, snow, and hail to New York City to Occupy Against Big Food.

Twenty-five or so folks gathered together and steeled themselves against the bitter elements to protest the corporate control of agriculture and to rally together to take back our food system. From foodies to farmers, eaters to DIY-ers, we all shared a common resistance against the unjust control of agriculture, and a common hope for a fair and sustainable food system based on family farm agriculture, and an independence from the industrialization and monopolization of our food and farms.

While our public “occupation” was cut short by Mother Nature, the spirit is strong and actions around the establishment of a healthy and fair food and farming economy endure!  But, this future of good, fair food requires that we all continue to support family farmers, local food movements, and live HOMEGROWN.  Add your thoughts and ideas, and learn how to get involved in your own home, on our ongoing discussion “A HOMEGROWN Occupy Movement" and visit Facebook's Occupy the Food System Page for more information.
