After leaving the gorgeous green of Missouri 10 years ago for the grey sea of concrete that is Long Beach and Los Angeles, I finally have a spot in a community garden. I combined plots with a friend who spent a couple of her formative years in the Midwest and missed the green enough to sit on a community garden waiting list with me for more than 3 years. But our wait is finally over!
We started late and I didn't do enough research to figure out what I needed, but we stuck some plants in the ground and are hoping for the best. I spent most of my life gardening and my college years were full of green houses and landscaping jobs. Somehow, all that knowledge faded away, but it felt so good to get back into the dirt!
Pardon the craptastic camera phone shot, but it's all I had at the time. They say there's nothing but smog, botox and fake tits out in Southern California, but we're proving them wrong. Behold, our little corner of heaven!
