Celebrate “culture” in agriculture & share skills like growing, cooking, canning

It's March 5 2013 and another winter storm barreling through the US. Good news is if we have enough storms they may stop naming them!  Anyway, due to the weather and the trees and bushes, spring is way off. With Easter on March 31, there will be no "easter lillies" in bloom here. I always watch the trees for signs of spring and there is nothing yet to indicate even a regular spring so look for late frosts and late fall harvests. Here is a picture from a couple of days ago.

What a difference a little mileage makes. I live in Western Pa, near Youngstown, Ohio. Elevation: 1000 ft. The Shenango River flows into the Beaver River and onto the Ohio River. It was warm here yesterday too and I was outside prepping for a new shed and paused shoveling gravel for a rest. I noticed the nearest tree "dripping". The sap is literally leaking out of the tree. But still no lilies!

March 10th here in southern Ohio our Easter Lillies will be busting open any day now. The temp. reached 73 degrees today and our trees are showing new growth and the berry bushes have new leaves starting out. We plowed the upper part of the garden for planting potatoes here in a week or so.
