Celebrate the culture of agriculture & share skills (Growing! Cooking! Eating!)

This week I started classes at Austin Community College - Physical Anthropology, Physical Geology, Spanish I, and Public Speaking.  Between reading for my classes, bein' mom, starting the application process for a study abroad program, and gathering supplies for school (textbook$$$ x_x) and yard (drip line kits, mychorrizae), I've been doing a little side research and garden planning.  My yard is hard pan, dry, weedy in some areas, and the soil really needs help.  At the moment I'm reading Mycelium Running by Paul Stamets, and Free-Range Chicken Gardens by Jessi Bloom.  All of the shipping cardboard has been repurposed as sheet mulch and covered over with compost and oak leaves.  It's a leisurely project, a start-over-from-scratch sort of thing, but I think by December things should be well on the way to a fantastic, tasty, colorful Spring.
