It was so nice to be able to picture the beginnings of the food I will be eating this summer, and what farmer Steve is up to as the ground awakens again. I thought I would share it with you, too!
An example of my CSA share - can't wait!!
Well, I have started planting in the greenhouse, so no matter what the calendar…Continue
This less-than-wintry winter we’re having here in New England has got me thinking about how to fake winter – at least the indoors part – with warming, savory foods. Part of the fun of winter is holing up inside, keeping cozy, and cooking a pot of something good. Casseroles are something good. Retro in style, usually creamy and easily portable (if one chose to leave…Continue
We held a Soup Swap this weekend and now we have a good stockpile of yummy homemade soups, made by friends, to get us through the winter!
This recipe pulls from a variety of sources: Julia Child and a few chefs I’ve known for the stock, this…Continue
After 8 weeks away, there's a lot to catch up on here. It makes me so happy to see the energy and activity here - and the HOMEGROWN Fair submissions are such a wonderful testament to how powerful skills and skill-sharing can be.
Oh, by the way, this is Brendan Christopher - the newest HOMEGROWNer, Farm Aid staff member, and my beautiful son. :)…Continue
As the summer winds down (nooooooooo!), my herb garden is overflowing and in need of some trimming. I can't bear to compost all of the lovely flavor that's been growing, so here's my solution. I chose to combine thyme, rosemary and sage for a handy store of herb butter to smear on a whole chicken for roasting. Come January, February and March, won't it be nice to revisit summer…Continue

I've been a little behind on cooking all of the veggies that come in my weekly CSA share, but last night I managed to get the massive zucchini and green pepper haul under control! I called up my mom and asked her for her dear friend Ingrid's delicious zucchini soup. Ingrid passed away a few years ago, and I still remember her - still strongly fighting the cancer that ultimately took her - dropping off freshly dug potatoes and a container of this soup with ingredients from her…Continue
I've been traveling in England for the last two weeks, and that means that I've had my fare share of Cotswold cheeses, cured meats and fish n chips. The minute the plane touched down on home soil, I knew it was time for some fresh veggies! Good thing my neighbor dropped off our Parker Farm CSA share last night:
1 bunch golden beets, 1 bunch carrots, 1 bunch kale, 2 zucchini, 3 cucumbers, 2 pounds new potatoes, 1/2 pound roma beans and 1 bunch red spring onions.
Heat wave be…Continue
It was simple - though a bit messy. This recipe makes three wreaths.
You will need:

6 envelopes of clear gelatin (1.5 boxes)
1 cup cold water
2 cups boiling water

Yesterday was the highly anticipated CSA member Pick-your-own event at Parker Farm. A good chunk of the membership drove out to the farm - pitchforks, trowels and knives in hand- to glean the remaining produce from Farmer Steve's fields.
It was a beautiful warm fall day. Drier than the originally-scheduled weekend before. Being out in the fields where my CSA bounty was grown is a significant… Continue
