We had a busy, wonderful day today.
Frank and Riley worked on a real door for the greenhouse. They hung it a little while ago and then came in to watch the rest of the golf tournament.
Yesterday, the kids had helped me fill 200 peat pots with the "tobacco/vegetable soil" that we got from the supply store. Today, I spent a couple of hours putting seeds into the pots, labeling them (until I ran out of "popsicle" sticks!), and organizing stuff around the greenhouse. Nadia…

I stumbled across this site this morning. Makes me wish I had a better camera. I like the burned out look of many of her photos + she posts some great recipes and food porn.

I started cool weather crops (Broccoli, Cauliflower, Spinach and 3 types of Lettuce) on Monday, and I've already got inch tall seedlings! For whatever reason, I've yet to see any cauliflower? Perhaps the seeds are too aged (they've been in the fridge for two seasons...) Last night, I started Cherry Tomato, German Chamomile, Red Hot Poker, Foxglove, Country Romance Hollyhocks and Yellow Hollyhocks!
My dad called me this afternoon, apparently he found someone selling bulk seed on Ebay…

As I wake the wind will whisper "Hallelujah!"
The dawn dips in and dusts away the dreams that overthrew ya
The last glimmers of gloam form a foaming chorus of "I wish I knew ya!"
The stoic sun shouts: "A new day is here! So what's it to ya?"
The stars are made of chalk, wiped away by the rags of tomorrow
Returning to real, I am once again myself, piecing in particles
pointillist portrait of my past
emotional tapestry in four-dimensions cannot be viewed…

If you aim yourself at me to take a *stab* at communication
I'm going to wonder if it's just a game to you or what is your intention
I'll let you know right off the bat I'm sick of these surface situations
I've seen it and I want a new direction
So if you start a conversation you know which way I'm gonna take it
I want to get to know you, I want to know to get you, to know you get me
I want to dig deeper
I want to grab a shovel and scoop out your…

I am really looking forward to getting my tomato seeds started, but I am still about one month away from the time line for here in Philly. I have five varieties of tomato seeds from
Amishland Heirloom Seeds, and I will probably grow three plants of each of these varieties for a total of 15 plants. Here are the five varieties I will be growing this year. Photos are from the Amishland Seed web site. I highly recommend them as a seed supplier, and their…

As an artist and a farmer I started a program called Art of the farm. We go to farms and create work. We have shows. Half the profits go into an interest free loan fund for organic farmers. We been doing this for 10 years. I would like to see this kind of program grow. We are an unincorporated association of artists. We have no officers no meetings, no grants. It's just us. We only have one rule. No rules. If you'd like to see what we've been doing, please Google Artonthefarm.org
It…

I spent the weekend starting lettuce and tomato seeds, tossing the worms over in the compost bin and setting up one corner of my kitchen for the future lettuce-growing and kombucha brewing operations. I decided to go to Bignamehomeimprovementcenter-with-an-orange-logo because they have a good selection of cheap fluorescent fixtures, bulbs, and doo dads. And there it was. Just as I walked into the garden section. I'd seen the TV ad. I'd even seen it in reputable magazines. The upside-down tomato…

My wife and I just had our first baby, so lately there have been a lot of posts about baby stuff. Most of the baby stuff is about how we use cloth diapers and air dry so it is good stuff. We have been starting seeds for the up coming season so we are getting back in the swing of things. Please feel free to become a follower on our blog, the more the merrier. The more…

I am looking for some feed back on this idea I have............ (this is from my website
www.fakepersonrealworld.com)
Who am I and why would anyone trust me?
My name is Lamont Dyck and I live in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan Canada. I have a back yard garden and I have been actively gardening for many years. This year I would like to start some new projects that require capital that I do not have. In the past when I needed money…

We have seeds at the ready, including a bunch of donated seeds, and are getting ready to build our greenhouse. We hope to grow several hundred plants to give away if the greenhouse works out well. Our community garden will be planted this Spring, starting with two donated acres! Hopefully we can encourage a lot of local families and organizations to plant their ground and grow lots of food to give away. So many people here in the US are hungry, and we hope to make a dent -- starting locally and…
