barred rock rooster

This year we added 3 more "barred rock" chicks to our flock. One of them turned out to be a sex link and another one turned out to be a barred rock rooster. I've been scouring the internet to see what the typical temperament of the barred rock rooster is and have come across varying opinions, of course. But, the thing I find most confusing is that alot of people have said that their rooster didn't mature for almost a year. My guy is just 4 months old and he's already trying to mount the hens.…See More

"Hi, I use hay in my nest boxes. They've always gone in there to lay. My coop is the size of a large dog house with 2 nest boxes built on the end. We put in a roost for them which all 3 crowd onto when it's cold. Every now and then someone…"

hey Dawn i have raised alot of birds and i have had both calm roosters and aggressive ones ...unfortunately  he sees u as a enemy to his girls and will only get worse as he ages ...he will get spurs soon which u can cut off ... but there deadly with there feet and beaks as well ... and here is what happened on the farm last Saturday

i had a hen out of the pen and i had a bantam rooster which was getting aggressive i had put him out the day before ... well long story short my daughters tried to catch the hen and the rooster attacked my 3 year old daughter ... that doesnt fly around here so needless to say theres no more bantam rooster

( in the chicken world we dont like to talk about this but cock fighting the handlers dont make there roosters mean they just are )
