Rebecca Tando replied to Caroline Malcolm's discussion 'Live-in Chickens' in the group Backyard Chickens
"I let my chickens out to roam around the yard in the evenings, just so they can get some good scratchin' time in before dark... and they get so excited when 5:00p rolls around and they see me coming!   I love how ... personable chickens…"

Rebecca Tando left a comment for Meredith
"Good Morning Meredith, I'm so glad to hear your chickens are not dying off, but seem to have returned to full health!  What a relief! Thanks for the "add"!  I've been sort of reading down your comments list, and you are…"

Rebecca Tando replied to Erin Mitchell's discussion 'Lavender Orpingtons...' in the group Backyard Chickens
"I think they are rare, having not been around longer than about ten years, so not too many are available.  The lavender gene is "normal-recessive" and it takes some breeding and culling to get a good strain going.  They're…"

"Meredith, I'm glad you posted again, as I can't find your first post, although it did show up in the email version!  You might consider placing your other birds on a preventive dosing of antibiotics, if you haven't already,…"

Rebecca Tando replied to Katie Beach's discussion 'Skirts, Skirts, Skirts!' in the group Homemade Clothes
"Oh man, this site (*You linked) is one of my favorites!!  I need to make me up three or four skirts.  I get so tired of wearing work pants all the time, and I only have one pair of overalls!  I was looking for a pattern I liked and am…"

Rebecca Tando replied to S's discussion 'Have compost...now what?'
"There ya go!  Your tomatoes will thank you for the rich material.  You can mix it with your garden soil, top dress after planting, plant directly into it, assuming it is no longer at ALL hot.... garden gold. Good job!"

What kind of HOMEGROWN are you?
100% Homegrown
Fill in the blank:
Never quit trying!
A bit about me:
Just getting back to the earth and loving it.
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
I try not to cook. It's my least favorite thing to do.

But now that I'm growing my own veggies I have determined to try and not just cook healthy but cook enjoyably!
Currently reading:
The stack of Homesteading Magazines my sister lent me.
Currently listening to:
The wind as it breezes through the trees. The dogs occasional bark at imaginary foes just on the other side of any given fence. The rooster proclaim his joy at being polygamous. And listening for arrival of spring!
My latest DIY project:
Anything and everything. Currently working on a civil war gown for a gal attending the Cotillion. I need to build a fence for the dogs and another one for the chickens. I also need to re-do my porch steps so they're not dangerous. And maybe a wrought iron gate for my driveway. Yep, it's pretty boring around here. I love it.
