My derecho Bride

I can't believe it's been a year since my last post. The past year has gone by like a whirlwind.....at times, literally like a whirlwind. My little lady and I were preparing for a front yard wedding this time last year. The big day was scheduled for June 30th. All of the plans were made, the food for the reception bought, the decorations in place. Every moment of our day from the ceremony to the small reception of family and friends had been planned in meticulous detail. Then Mother Nature…See More

Ryan and the white picket fence

(When we last left our hero he was in the front yard gussying up the place for his front yard wedding) Good morning from Grandin Village. I had the honor and privilege of waking up every hour last night for reasons unbeknownst to me. Was it the rigorous workout in the front yard yesterday? Or perhaps the allergy pill I took? Maybe the chocolate I ate right before bed? I suppose the cause matters little to my tired old body this morning. If the reason for my insomnia was the rigorous workout I…See More

News from Grandin Village

My name is Phil. I am just another gardener in a sea of 'people of the earth'-a slowly disappearing breed of homo sapiens who would rather spend countless hours of hard labor in order to eat a dish of spring potatoes than take a quick ride to the grocery store and simply buy them. We are a stubborn lot that refuses to give up our connection with the soil. If you are a member of this website, you are, no doubt, among this dying group of weed warriors that brave the elements and the forces of…See More

Dirt Under My Fingernails City Slicker
A bit about me:
I'm a farm boy originally from northwest New Jersey dairy country. I never fail to grow a vegetable garden wherever I live. I live in the Grandin Village area of Roanoke where, from what I understand, all the best Roanoke city gardeners dwell :~)
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
We recently purchased a Junior Women's League cookbook and are currently enjoying a batch of Alexander's Pecan crusted chicken that we found there.
Currently reading:
The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Gibbon
Currently listening to:
Third Day, Buster B Jones, Avalon
My latest DIY project:
Building a white picket fence to enclose our front yard.
