Leggy Plants

My grandma could start her seeds in the house in the south window 6 to 8 weeks  before it was time to plant them.  I have been trying to get my seeds to start for years and have always ended up buying plants.  I have an entire shoebox full of seeds and I really want to grow my own seedlings.. The problem that I have is that the plants get leggy and they never start forming real leaves.. and then of course they die..  I have read everything I can get my hands on and I started this years batch…See More

Hi, Laura. Welcome to HOMEGROWN! My name is Jennifer, and I’m the flock tender here: site updater and tweaker, feeder and waterer of content. I’m so glad you found us! I hope you’ll turn up plenty of projects and ideas here to spur you on, and I hope you’ll be game for sharing some of your own, too—starting with that hushpuppy recipe, pretty pelase—in our member blog, The Stew. Elsewhere on HOMEGROWN, you can always find the latest additions to the site at the top of the homepage, and if you ever need help finding your way around, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment on my profile page or shoot me a message. I hope you feel right at home!

Laura: I'm so glad you're here—and thanks so much for sharing the hushpuppies! How lucky you were to learn so much from your grandparents. You'll find a few more folks here who had the same experience, but also a lot of people who are just learning these sorts of homesteading skills now, for the first time, on their own. Just curious: What are a couple of things you learned from your family that have stuck with you the most?
