"Hi Julie, so glad to hear that the community came through for you this time!  Yay for the new porch roof!  And really, most of all, thankfully you guys enjoyed your group work day... and it sounds like you were able to articulate a way for…"

"KylieinOz: When we built our chicken coop we made a fortress.  It's 8' tall, 8' long, and 4' wide.  Under the dirt is welded wire fence, with cement cinder blocks laying on the edges.  The coop structure sits on…"

"Well, if you want REALLY easy... and you don't mind "cheating" a bit... I will go to the natural food store and get a whole chicken.  One night is chicken sandwiches with melted cheese, sliced apple, and pesto on good bread...…"

"Pat - You crack me up... the whiskey/rum maker never got killed!  So... beer is difficult?  And here I thought I was starting with the easiest thing... would you recommend starting with wine?  See... I've heard of little co-op…"

"Terri - No, I'm in N. Cal... in the mountains near Santa Cruz.  It doesn't get THAT hot here mostly... we get so much fog (which just screws with my tomatoes... I'm down to just cherry tomatoes in 4 colors this year). …"

"Oh Harriet!  I too loved the paragraph that Lisa copied.  Wow.  Yeah.  And... for life.  That's me too.  And like you, I've been burned a bunch... just because I believe in a way of being... and some other…"

"CJ - Yes, I get bogged down in the idea that I have to look radical.  I don't see it in myself, because my goal is to live my values... and I often stare other public school parents in the face and realize that they do, in fact, think that…"

"I'm not sure I'm qualified to jump in... but here's my 2 cents...   I have little kids... 6 and 5... we are in the "what is THAT?!?  Yuck!" phase.  Right now I balance our CSA share, my garden, our two…"

What kind of HOMEGROWN are you?
Fill in the Blank
Fill in the blank:
A not-good-at-fitting-in-a-box kind of Homegrown
A bit about me:
I'm a mom to two girls, 7 and 5, and I'm navigating the parenting thing as best I can. I have backyard chickens and a modest garden that I love, tomatoes are my favorite crop. I spend a lot of time supporting my children's teachers now that my girls are entering the school system.
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
Latest meal... chicken strips, grean bean and black eyed pea salad, raw veggies. Greatest meal... mmm... I make a mean chicken and dumplings. But really... it depends on who you ask in my house... my kids are at the "eewww" stage. We're working on gratitude around here.
Currently reading:
The Heart of Buddha's Teaching, The Poisoner's Handbook, Shadow Country, Respectful Parents Respectful Kids, The No-Fault Classroom
Currently listening to:
Allison Kraus
Michelle Shocked
80's hair bands
The Go-Go's (my kids love them... sad?... maybe)
Willie Nelson
Yeah... no box for my music tastes either... and I'm not listening to them all at once... they're just my favs right now.
My latest DIY project:
Making my soon-to-be-5-year-old's birthday present. I'm felting 3 frogs, a bird, an egg and an alligator to go with a Leo Lionni book.
