A bit about me:
I work in the Exhibits department at the Alaska State Fair. I came to Alaska via serving in the Air Force and stayed here to raise my family. Being from farm country in PA, I have always missed the freshest farmed foods and fresh everything I was used to growing up in farm/dairy area. Alaska is the best place to grow a world record cabbage but to have fresh veggies in all areas of our beautiful state is a challenge. In the past few years I have begun to see changes in farming and how new younger farm families are trying out this challenging way of life. We have Peony farms, oyster farms, apple orchards for the first time. Urban gardens popping up. Stories of rural villages experimenting with indoor gardens. I want to be involved too!
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
Red salmon (I caught with my fly rod) roasted veggies from my garden, salad made with ingredients from the garden and fresh warm sourdough my husband made for me. very satisfying :-)

Welcome, Jeanne!

Maybe we need a group really focussed on northern climes and the challenges that presents to fresh food production.
