"Sorry Jennifer - I just saw this comment. I picked them from the lawn when i lived in the country but in the city with all the lawn control treatments I either grow them or purchase them at the farmers market."

Below the Line, phase 2

I am $52 short of my goal, so I am continuing the Below the Line challenge. This week is Australia's week, but I'm keeping to the US $ limit. My tummy's a little made at me right now. What I need are some good ideas on what to do with the dandelions! I've just been using them as salad. Does anyone have another use for them that tastes good?See More

"Now, if I could just get some volunteer arugula and tomatoes, I'd be in business. Love this. Thanks for sharing—and good luck in your challenge!"

Below the Line

Below the Line is a 5 day challenge and fundraiser. That link will take you to my profile page. But trying to do it has lead me to notice something:My backyard is kinda awesome, now that I'm using what just kinda grows there all on its own. I've got 3 different kinds of edible flowers, some wild garlic, wild basil, and some volunteer onions. I know they're volunteers, because the weather's been too wonky to plant. There'll be…See More

ye gods, I found energy

(so I am camped in front of the computer for the weekend!) Then again, the forecast for the weekend reads "hail and tornados", so I'm fine with staying inside.Soooo... I started out with 3 long beds, which, from my prior post, needed the gook raked off. That does not count containers or the raised beds normally used by my kids.Bed #1 contains corn. It's about a half-foot or a little more high. Yes, I did plant ridiculously early. The first week or so of March. It was warm enough...Bed #2 starts…See More

And, naturally....

Got all the gook raked off the beds - yes! I actually did it! Found two little carrots that had somehow survived, and realized the onions I'd left were greening up. (I think I need to separate them).Naturally, now, the wind is pretty much straight from the north, bringing with it clouds of greyness and anticipated snow flurries this evening. Explain why I am tempted to plant stuff anyhows?See More

"Hi Jana - welcome to the fray! :0 There's nothing like getting out in the dirt, is there? Those loamy, earthy, wormy smells are such a treat in January!"

Entering the fray

Huh. I just realized I had a blog here! Bad me -I've been a member how long now?So, it's January. I'm contemplating ways, means, and the ever popular "Do I have enough energy for this?" of the plotting out, building up, and prepping of the garden. Being as, for some weird reason, it is 60=something in January, in Kansas, and therefore good weather for doing so. (I am firmly of the belief, incidentally, that there will be a blizzard in July to make up for this.)Probably what I will do this…See More

"August? Seeds ordered in August? *blinks* But... but... I just got my seed catalog last week! And probably won't get seeds until March! Then again, with as wonky as the weather is, I may try planting some of the ones I saved from last year…"

What kind of HOMEGROWN are you?
Fill in the Blank
Fill in the blank:
I can grow weeds! Food is harder.
A bit about me:
My gardens yearly produce a vast quantity of weeds (sometimes taller than I am), and occasionally some foodstuffs. Awesome gardener, I am not.

I am, however, a decent cook.

And I would have picked "I'm a robot" from the drop-down menu below, but my programming requires frequent chocolate updates.
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
Well... we had a grill party. Deviled eggs, banana pudding (yes, the variety with the vanilla wafers), potato salad, coleslaw (the only bought, not made, item), baked beans (the only thing that came out wrong) and from the grill: pork chops, chicken breasts, hot dogs, hamburgers, peppers, corn, asparagus, and naturally, marshmallows. I may have missed something.
Currently reading:
Fanfiction, since I have reacquainted myself with most of my Louis L'Amour.
Currently listening to:
I think it is a riding mower across the street. Or possibly one of the machines they are using to fix the sewer line. Not real sure. Oh, it's both, okay.
My latest DIY project:
I put up a portable clothesline, and I'm attempting to do another garden. Oh, and we remodeled the front porch a bit to make it a better bedroom for a kid.
