Cheap Seed Starting Setup

A week ago, I officially started my seeds. There are lots of new additions and my entire list is here and a rough schedule for starting seeds is here. I'm not neat or fancy when it comes to projects, but I can get the job done. All of the planting took place in my dining room and later the pots were hauled upstairs for…See More

Saving money with Whole Grains

Mondays are always hectic. After the slower pace of the weekend, the first day of the week can really knock the wind out of me. Furiously packing lunches, making sure the boys have something clean to wear and just getting basics checked off my weekly list. One of the tasks on my Monday list is always preparing our whole grains. But really the work begins Sunday night. As the weekend comes to a close, I already have the next week's meals on my mind. We eat plenty of beans and other whole foods…See More

Earth Mama
A bit about me:
Stuck at home with five kids and six acres is just where I want to be. With a huge, diverse garden and a bunch of chickens, we keep ourselves busy. Nothing we eat comes from a box. I have been trying my hands at sewing and other cottage things and simply love it. I keep a blog with a "sister" of mine called two blue houses about all of our farm and family life stories.
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
soup, every kind of soup...
Currently reading:
Deadly Decisions... for the other side of the vaccine debate...
Currently listening to:
city and colour, something corporate, brandi carlile, civil twilight
My latest DIY project:
sewing from the book one yard wonder...

Are Your Eggs Fresh? Here are some easy tests...

When you have chickens, you always have something to eat. A handful of fresh eggs can quickly become quiche, pasta, pancakes and many other super fast meals. Along with the pure novelty of keeping animals for food come an abundance of new facts about the food you are eating. Raising chickens has changed all my previous beliefs and ideas about food and the word…

Ginger Lemon Sunshine Cake

If sunshine had a flavor, I think it would be ginger lemon. The flavors are such a happy combination and this recipe is perfect for these sunny but still cool spring mornings.
