Helki commented on Brittney's group 'Kombucha'
"I will be starting kombucha for the first time and have a few questions. How do I know when the tea is "done" and how long can I keep my fermented tea in the fridge? Thanks for your help!"

Helki replied to Cornelia's discussion 'Landless, but living HOMEGROWN? Looking for ways to start?'
"I hear you! I live on the top floor of an Apartment building and my small deck is mostly shaded. I container garden in the space I have. You're a step ahead of me with the worm bin which will only add to the richness of container soil.…"

What kind of HOMEGROWN are you?
Dirt Under My Fingernails City Slicker
A bit about me:
I'm grateful to my Granny for teaching me the value of homegrown food, canning, cooking for your self, freezing, chickens, and wood stoves. She also taught me to identify trees, shrubs, and plants in the Great NW. Grandpa instilled the Warrior Spirit and taught me that real men are partners in the home and garden. Right now I'm an urban nomad without much room to grow my own food but I am doing my research and implementing the things that I can now, learning to live simply.
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
Hot sauce glazed tempeh, sweet potato fries, and fresh spring asparagus
Currently reading:
The Urban Homestead. I'm not trying to suck up here, really!
Currently listening to:
Animal Collective, cLOUDEAD, PJ Harvey, Ani Difranco, The Books, Coil, Deerhunter, The Dodos, KRGA, Melt-Banana, Miles dsavis, Sigur Ros, Subtle, Tom Waits,
My latest DIY project:
The 5 gal self watering containers for Tomatoes and Basil. I heart Pesto
