What kind of HOMEGROWN are you?
Earth Mama
A bit about me:
I am a mother of 1 who works at an environmental non-profit think-tank. I studied both Political Science and Environmental Science at a CSU. I am concerned about resilience both for my family and my community. Thus my recent interests over the last couple of years have started to include gardening and canning.
Latest greatest meal cooked at home:
prassitopita ("greens" pie...most recently made with kale. A recipe learned from one of my aunts in Greece. They make it year round, changing only what green they use based on what is ready to pick) with a fennel root cabbage salad and beetroots. Most of what we cook is classical Greek recipes.
Currently reading:
The Post Carbon Reader and, for fun, American Gods
Currently listening to:
My 2 year old son has become obsessed with Bob Marley, so that's what's been in my head for the last few weeks. But on my own time it's Phish, Grateful Dead, Neil Young, or (and yes, I know this doesn't fit with the others) System of a Down.
My latest DIY project:
We just moved into a new rental. We'd been living in a 1 bd apt since we moved back from Greece. We now have a small yard, so I'm working on expanding what was my "patio" garden. I'm also working on plans for a worm bin now that I have a little more space.

Several days later the bag is still…

Hi Adrienne.  Welcome to Homegrown! I admire all that you are doing and hope you'll share more with the rest of the community in a blog post, or show & tell post.  Prassitopita sounds delicious - I can't wait to visit Greece someday!
