CURIOUSER AND CURIOUSER This week we’re pleased to introduce you to Nicole—Nicole meet everybody, everybody meet Nicole—although you might already know her. Nicole is the brains and the beauty behind a HOMEGROWN-minded effort called FARMcurious, a website, event series, and more dedicated to helping urbanites find their inner homesteaders through teaching skills like food production, footprint reduction, and seasonable and sustainable eating. Three cheers to that!
If you’re in the Oakland area, you might check out one of FARMcurious’s classes. Coming soon: hand-stretched mozzarella on October 21, brewing and infusing vinegar on November 3, and the annual Holiday Jam Scram on November 18.
As for her own menu, “We've been cooking a ton of Indian- and Ethiopian-inspired meals lately,” Nicole says—an especially impressive culinary undertaking given the recent demands on her time. Although she’s pretty much a certified kitchen guru, Nicole’s biggest project yet doesn’t involve canning jars or a pressure cooker.
“I made a son this year!” she says. Want to wish Nicole congratulations? Post a comment below or shoot her a message via her profile page. And in the meantime, Nicole, we're so glad you're here!
What is Meet Your Neighbors? Most of us spend a fair amount of time tending our online gardens, but it’s easy to forget there’s a real person behind every quiche recipe, chicken inquiry, and hoophouse design here on HOMEGROWN. Well, nuts to that! MYN gives us a chance to meet over the back fence and shake hands. (Or maybe hug? We’re huggers. But no pressure.)
