A REAL PEACH: Next up in our series of HOMEGROWN introductions is new member Lisa, a self-described Southern Grown Mama from the heart of Georgia. A bit about Lisa, in her own words: “I am the executive director of a local in-school youth-mentoring program. I have had awesome mentors in my life and enjoy sharing life, food, and experiences with others. One of my greatest mentoring moments came at about age 9, when my grandma from North Carolina took me out to pick apples (yes, climbing up in the trees with ladders), bring them home, peel and cut them with a pairing knife for hours, prepare HOMEMADE pie crusts, and finally BAKE and EAT the most delicious pies in the whole world!”
That early HOMEGROWN adventure certainly set the table for Lisa’s future. Her latest and greatest home-cooked meal featured baked ham with pineapple and cherries, homemade mac and cheese, fresh green beans, crowder peas, deviled eggs, angel biscuits with homemade strawberry jam, and carrot cake. All in one sitting. Now that’s how we like to eat.
In true HOMEGROWN fashion, Lisa is on the hunt for a top-shelf cinnamon bread recipe and hopes you can help. Got a favorite to share? Post a note below or give Lisa a holler. It’s mighty neighborly of you.
What is Meet Your Neighbors? Most of us spend a fair amount of time tending our online gardens, but it’s easy to forget there’s a real person behind every quiche recipe, chicken inquiry, and hoophouse design here on HOMEGROWN. Well, nuts to that! MYN gives us a chance to meet over the back fence and shake hands. (Or maybe hug? We’re huggers. But no pressure.)
