GIRL POWER Now here’s something we like to see: a young lass who is wise beyond her years living the HOMEGROWN life full tilt. HG, meet new member Blair. Blair, you don’t mind if we bestow upon you the title of Future HOMEGROWN Hope of America, do you?
Blair came up in the soil of her mother’s garden—“I’m a dirt-child,” in her words—and is now planning a vegetable bed in back of her Florida apartment. In other words, she’s not waiting for a farm. Or a house. Or a far-removed vision of what could be one day. She’s making it happen now. In her short time on HOMEGROWN, Blair has hit the books hard with the Perma-Curious study group. She has shared her recipe for natural mosquito repellents—and, coming from what she calls “the swamps of Florida,” Blair knows from mosquitoes. She has even given up her deviously delicious secret to sneak-attack healthy mac and cheese. Blair, it’s like we’re long-lost sisters. Welcome home.
But as much as we love her, we need more Blairs. We need all of you cooking and tilling and canning and creating. We need you and everybody you know getting your hands dirty and spreading the gospel of good food. You’re doing it already. You’re the groundswell. But what's better than a groundswell? A loud-as-all-get-out crescendo: “We want good food and we want it now!” Cue the host of angels.
Anyway, we’re preaching to the choir. Blair’s doing it. You’re doing it. You guys should talk. Welcome Blair by posting a comment below or by shooting her a message via her profile page. Tell her we said hi.
What is Meet Your Neighbors? Most of us spend a fair amount of time tending our online gardens, but it’s easy to forget there’s a real person behind every quiche recipe, chicken inquiry, and hoophouse design here on HOMEGROWN. Well, nuts to that! MYN gives us a chance to meet over the back fence and shake hands. (Or maybe hug? We’re huggers. But no pressure.)
