FROST REPORT: Do you like surprises? We do. And this week, we got a goodie: some gorgeous photos from HOMEGROWN member Allen Frost of his beautiful new homestead and its bounty.
Those of you who’ve been around a while may remember Allen. He joined HOMEGROWN back in 2010, when he was living out of an Airstream and working to develop his home and farm on 20 serene acres in North Carolina’s Pisgah Forest. In the interim, he has kept at it, growing grapes, blueberries, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, asparagus, squash, corn, beans, watermelons, pumpkins, and okra, and raising chickens and Gulf Coast Native sheep. Not to mention building that house. In fact, you can watch a deceptively blissful video of Allen hard at work on the farm.
Now that he has put in the manual labor, we get to enjoy the eye candy. Clicking through Allen’s photos is a bit like watching time flow in reverse—a good reminder of all that he has accomplished between then and now. Ooh and ah over the pictures; then, if you feel so inclined, send him a word of congrats. We’d say he deserves it.
What is Meet Your Neighbors? Most of us spend a fair amount of time tending our online gardens, but it’s easy to forget there’s a real person behind every quiche recipe, chicken inquiry, and hoophouse design here on HOMEGROWN. Well, nuts to that! MYN gives us a chance to meet over the back fence and shake hands. (Or maybe hug? We’re huggers. But no pressure.)
