It required a lot of ice water to cool the boiling wort down towards sixty degrees with the temperature around 100 (F) outside.  Even after the big chill I had to put the carboy in the fridge for a while before adding the yeast.  The yeast starter kicked right in so I'm optimistic my first lager will be a success. I'll find out in October.
