So for the 28 years of my life, I've been pretty married to various beauty products and cosmetics, but I'm ready for a divorce.

My questions are for those of you who have done/are doing the OCM and the No 'Poo hair washing:

OCMers: How's it working out for you? I have sensitive skin, and am susceptible to rosacea flare ups (ouch). My skin fluctuates between oily (especially in the forehead region) to flakey and dry, which makes me think I'm just confusing the heck out of it with my various soaps and moisturizers. How often do you find you need to do the deep cleanse? And do you not use any soaps at all anymore?

No 'Poo: Now here's where I get nervous about making my transition to herbal and homemade remedies. My hair is on the very impossible side. It's fine but there is a ton of it and it also fluctuates between just slightly wavy to downright huge and curly. I've also been dying it for years now (I'm a redhead stuck in a blonde's body) but am considering making the transition to henna or more natural dyes. So does anyone out there have a similar hair story and has had success with the no 'poo?

Thank you for your help!

PS: If anyone is looking for a new essential oil to add to their lotions/balms/etc, I absolutely love Cypress oil. It blends beautifully with rosemary too and is supposedly exceptional for your skin.

Hi Caitlin,

I dont' use lotion based products anymore for my moisturizers simply because over the years I have learned that my skin is made up of oil and it resonates much better with oil-based products. I create my own products utilizing carrier oils (with calendula extract loaded in there) that closely match our pH. That way my skin actually ABSORBS it and a barrier of weirdness isn't created. That even happens with me with home made all natural lotions, too. I also live high in the rocky mountains where the air is DRY! I encourage you to explore that which feels best for your body! yay!!! It's such a FUN adventure!

Thanks for the encouragement Kristie! I definitely plan on experimenting quite a bit in the first few months in order to figure out what's going to work best for me. Can you explain a bit more about what you mean about matching our pH?

Hi Caitlin,

The oils I use closely match our own pH. In otherwords, the oils are similar in 'make-up' to what our own bodies produce. And therefore, our bodies readily understand what to do with the oil! i.e. absorb it and actually moisturize our skin! I constantly have this experience with lotion that I apply it and then within the hour I am 'dry' again. With oil I have a much more long-lasting experience. I use the calendula oil I make even for my face! I love it.

I haven't made the switch to totally no poo, but I've been thinking about it... in the mean time, there is a soap maker my sister knows that I got introduced to a while ago. Now she has a soap BALL... no packaging, all natural, and her ingredients are all food grade, which TECHNICALLY means you can eat them... but I don't. LMAO... At any rate. I bought a shampoo moon and I LOVE them. Very great lather. I also know a couple people on line that have had really good results with oily hair and No Pooing.

In case you're interested in the moons. http://emzblendzsoap.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16562&cat=...

Ah excellent, thank you! I'll check it out. I'm still curious about the no 'poo method but I'm always on the look out for good food grade soaps.
