Hey, Jodie! Everything that I've read depends on the temperament f the hen and when you put them in. Everything says late at night to put them in and that if they can't be under her while hatching, at week old they should be ok, but keep an eye on her :)

So far so good with our setting hen on 10 turkey eggs. I figure July 2 for hatching. Have 6 more in the incubator that didnt fit under her. OK - providing the incu's hatch - how will sneek the hatchlings in with mama hen? My husband has serious concerns on where I am going to put these turkeys. I figure casualities, but out of 16 eggs I should get some. Any ideas on putting hatchlings with mama?

We ended up making a home for our chicks using the old "dog crate" for our lab and lined it to make it a bit more habitable  - it gave them enough room both inside and outside the house.  They'll be introduced to the coop soon!

ok, checked on chicks today (still a few days to go) and all were warm and heavy! yay! about another week and we should have chicks! Now... what to do with their housing.. On a different note. Our 1 laying hen got up UNDER the coop.... SO much fun getting her out *sigh*

Our broody hen has gotten up every now and again. the hubby went to put a bowl of food and water in the coop for her and was hissed at and puffed up at, so he said, "she can get her hoochie butt up and get it herself" lol

I have a hen that went broody about 3 weeks ago. I think she's just coming out of it. I don't have another place or even space to raise babies. We live in an association neighborhood and have just 3 hens, who we love. So, every day, when the other 2 would lay their eggs, I went right out to get them. And every afternoon I would let all 3 out of the run to run around in the yard. I had to physically remove Jane from her nest box but, once she was out she would run around for awhile. She would sometimes try to head back to the nest but, I closed up the coop and run so she couldn't get back in. I wanted to make sure she was eating and drinking and stretching her little legs. On Sat she was in the run with the other 2 when I got home from work in the morning. She has stopped the incessant clucking and fussing and seems to be more like herself. I'd love to raise a clutch some time but, I need another place to put them and I don't have that right now. Someday though....

We have hatched two clutches of ducks with our broody hens (two different times, the last was just 2 weeks ago, darling things).  Both mama hens would get up and eat/drink once a day or so and take care of their needs.  We worried the first time around that the eggs would get cold....  All 9 fertilized eggs hatched, no problem.  Same with this time.

Standard feed stuffs... She's just sitting. She'll eat when hungry enough :)

I have managed to get Henrietta (Barred Rock Hen) to set on 10 turkey eggs.  Let me count the days.  Any suggestions on additional feed or supplements to help her through the extra days?
